TATA IPL 2024: The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is set to kick off on March 22, 2024. The schedule for the first 17 days of IPL 2024 was unveiled on Thursday, February 22, with the tournament beginning on March 22.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the initial two weeks of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, running from March 22, 2024, to April 7, 2024.

The schedule for the first 17 days of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was announced on Thursday, February 22, and the competition is scheduled to begin on March 22.

The opening clash will witness reigning champions Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. This marks the 9th occasion that CSK will play the inaugural match of an IPL season. Matches during the day will commence at 3:30 PM, while evening fixtures will kick off at 7:30 PM on double-header days.


A total of 21 matches are scheduled during this period. On second day of Indian Premier League action featured a with Punjab Kings hosting Delhi Capitals and KKR facing SRH at Eden Gardens.


The subsequent double-header will witness MI's captain Hardik Pandya leading his team in Ahmedabad's evening match, while RR and LSG will lock horns in the 3:30 PM fixture.


For the initial two weeks, Delhi Capitals will not play their home matches in Delhi. Instead, their first two home fixtures will take place in Vizag.


The Lok Sabha elections in India, anticipated in April and May, have caused the delay in releasing the schedule for the 17th edition of IPL.


Dhumal said that only the schedule for the first fifteen days will be disclosed initially. The timetable for the remaining games will be decided after the announcement of the general election dates.


"We set goal for a March 22 start for the tournament. Also we are closely communicating  with government agencies, and our first step will be to release the initial schedule. The whole tournament will be held in India," said Dhumal recently to PTI.


In the past, IPL has adapted to changing circumstances during general elections. The 2009 edition was held entirely in South Africa, while the 2014 edition was partly hosted in the UAE due to elections.


In the 2019 edition continued in India despite occurring elections.


According to current reports, the IPL final is slated for May 26, and the T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to commence on June 1.


Following the schedule announcement, the BCCI released a statement reaffirming their commitment to closely collaborate with the government. They address any issues arising from the initial schedule for the first two weeks.


"As in the past, the The Board of Control for Cricket in India will closely collaborate with government and security agencies, adhering to all necessary protocols and advisories related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. After the announcement of the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the Board will review and address any concerns regarding the schedule for the first two weeks. Subsequently, the The Board of Control for Cricket in India will work in conjunction with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into account the polling dates," stated the BCCI in their release.
