Barcelona started their journey to the Champions League knockout stage with a strong result thanks to their win in the first leg of their round of 16 tie against Naples at the 1-0 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Monday night.

Barcelona vs Napoli first half

Barça started the stronger on the road, quickly establishing themselves in Napoli's half and being good at finding space inside the table by moving the ball well between the lines. Lamine Yamal and Ilkay Gundogan were the biggest threats, when Pedri & Robert Lewandowski became more involved the Blaugrana became even more dangerous front.

Yamal tested Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret first time with a shot from distance, then Lewandowski had a great chance in the area and Gundogan fired a rocket from the edge of the box that would have found the top corner, but Meret saved the opener. Made three excellent saves to deny the goal.

The first 30 minutes belonged to Barça, but the Catalans were unable to find a breakthrough, and in the end Napoli were able to move forward and enjoy more of the ball. Makar-Andre never got Ter Stegen to work, however, and Ronald Araújo neutralized the threat of Victor Osimhen while Jules Kounde did a strong job protecting Quicha Kwartskhelia on the wings.

The first half ended without a goal but Barça were happy with their work in the first half, but they needed to continue the good work and be more clinical from deep in the final 45 minutes to find the winner.

Barcelona vs Napoli second half

Barça again started the second half with full control of the ball and forcing Napoli to defend deep inside their own half, while the Catalans continued to pose a threat.

And exactly on the one-hour mark the visitors finally get the goal they deserved: a long pass sequence followed by a classy finish by an atrocious Pedri. Finally, Luis finds space and sends a powerful low shot inside the box into the fourth corner. Had to put it in. Let go.

Napoli showed strange composure after suddenly opening up and made little physical effort to get forward and caused little trouble to the Barça defence, and the Blaugrana continued to control the ball and appear to be traveling towards the final conclusion.

But an unexpected equalizer came with 15 minutes remaining against the game when Zambo Anguissa played a pass to Victor Osimhen inside the box, taking out Nigerian striker Iñigo Martínez and finding the bottom corner.

Barça were deeply affected by the Napoli goal and could no longer control possession, losing the ball easily in midfield and allowing the hosts to make more physical efforts to create threats inside the circles.

Xavi Hernández discovered a glimmer of excellence in attack by bringing Raphinha and Joao Félix out of the penalty area and tried to create a late chance for a winner, but the Blaugrana were unable to break down the Napoli defense and the final whistle Came and finished the first leg in match draw.

Barça played well enough and created enough chances to score more than a single goal, and the result is not at all satisfactory when considering that Napoli scored with almost their only chance in the entire game. But a draw in an away game is never a bad result in the Champions League knockout stage, and the performance was strong and mature enough to be encouraging for the second leg.

Barcelona kicked off their Champions League knockout campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Napoli in the Round of 16 first leg. Despite dominating early on and securing a one-goal lead through solid attacking play, a defensive lapse denied them a victory.

Napoli's lack of urgency after conceding allowed Barcelona to control the game, but a late equalizer leveled the score. Despite efforts to find a winner, Barcelona couldn't break through Napoli's defense. The draw, although not entirely satisfying given Napoli's single chance goal, is still a decent outcome for Barcelona.

Their performance, especially in the first half, showed promise for the second leg, leaving room for optimism. Xavi Hernandez's tactical substitutions aimed to ignite their attack but fell short. Barcelona's display and numerous chances indicate potential for success in the upcoming leg.
